What is entry points?
Entry Points combines high-quality online math programming with the community and mathematical identity building for elementary-aged students from marginalized backgrounds. The program is designed to give students nationwide access to BEAM-style learning and to support mathematical problem solving from an early age.
Entry Points provides free online access to the Art of Problem Solving’s highly-regarded Beast Academy program. When fully established, Entry Points will be a part of the BEAM National Pathway Program.
What is the Beast Academy?
Beast Academy is used by elementary school students across the country to do more sophisticated mathematical work centered around reasoning and problem-solving.
Beast Academy features:
Comic-book style characters and stories to teach math
Engaging and step-by-step videos of specific math skills
Kid-friendly, easy-to-use platform
Creative math puzzles to unlock “labs”
And so much more!
+ 2020-21 School Year
During the 2020-2021 pilot year, BEAM will meet with students regularly (virtually, for now) in both group and individual settings to support students' progress, enrich their understanding, and engage them in math discussions. We want to support students on Beast Academy and develop a sense of community and self-identity for students as mathematicians.
Entry Points is for elementary schoolers who are ready for more challenges in math: they love puzzles, they like to figure out how things work, and they want to play around with interesting questions. In 2020-2021, BEAM will be working with 5th graders; we hope to expand to younger students in future years.
+ 2021-22 & Onwards
During the 2021-2022 school year, we expect to pilot Entry Points as a school-led program for fifth graders.
BEAM expects to offer professional development, recommended activities to run with students, and easy access to student progress on the Beast Academy platform. For those located near some of our staff, we will offer regular classroom visits to connect students to the broader BEAM community. Families will also receive monthly games and activities that they can do together with students.
Future Years
The program will continue to scale based on initial outcomes, reaching students in both younger and older grades.
At full scale, BEAM National will provide access to advanced mathematics learning for students from second grade through college graduation. It will provide continuous mentoring and advising from middle school through college. Our goal is nothing less than to change the landscape of achievement by both reaching students from a young age and providing access to the most marginalized students no matter where they are.
Students who do well in Entry Points will receive free enrollment to online Art of Problem Solving courses in 6th and 7th grades, and can then continue to a national, residential summer program in the summer after 7th grade --- BEAM's Summer Away program, which will introduce them to beautiful and challenging topics in math.
Students who attend Summer Away will be a part of our Pathway Program from 8th grade to college graduation, which will include individual mentoring and advising, online classes, and a continuous community of all their friends from the summer. While the community will be online for most of the year, each year students from all years of the program will come together for a conference/reunion to reconnect and share their learnings, with a focus on older students mentoring their younger peers.

We are currently seeking Entry Points partner schools for the 2021-2022 school year. During the current 2020-2021 pilot year, BEAM is directly supporting students in order to best understand how to support students with Beast Academy’s advanced mathematical content. In future years, partners could do anything from offering a full-on class (with support from us) to simply making sure students have a good place to work and technology to do it.
Thank you so much! We look forward to working with you.
