Admission to BEAM Pathway
After BEAM Discovery, you may be eligible to apply for the BEAM Pathway Program.
Eligibility
To apply to the BEAM Pathway Program, you must first be financially eligible. BEAM considers extenuating circumstances when making eligibility decisions; we know that the pandemic has affected many households, and we will take your family situation into consideration in determining eligibility.
About the program
The BEAM Pathway Program starts in the Summer after 7th grade, with a 3-week residential program where you’ll be doing mathematics 7 hours a day and explore the idea of mathematical proof. After the summer, we continue with 9 years of support through high school and into college.
In grades 8-12, you can participate in enrichment classes on the weekend and class reunions. We also provide high school admissions support, career days, college admissions support, opportunities to attend other summer camps in the future, and more!
Admission Criteria
Admission is highly competitive: Only 80 seventh-graders from New York City and 40 seventh-graders from Los Angeles will be chosen. We look for students who like math and solving puzzles, and who want to challenge themselves to do more.
When considering admission from the BEAM Discovery program to the BEAM Pathway Program, we mainly look at three things:
Your engagement during BEAM Discovery 2020
You engagement with mathematics throughout 7th grade
Your Admissions Challenge score (to be administered in late winter 2021)
Admission to the BEAM Pathway Program requires demonstrating readiness, which you can do in one of the following ways:
Alcumus/Art of Problem Solving (see the alumni website)
Challenge Sets that we will be sending throughout the year
Saturday enrichment classes
You don't need to do everything on this list. Pick something that really works for you. We want to see that you engage with something you like!
Right now, we are adapting our admissions process to remote learning, and we will be in touch this Winter with details and next steps.
