Congratulations on being accepted to BEAM Discovery for 2024! BEAM Discovery will run June 24th - July 26th , Monday through Friday, hosted at Richard Merkin Middle School in the Pico/Union neighborhood.
This page contains all the information you need for this summer. At the end of the summer, this page will announce alumni events and opportunities.
Registration for the summer and links to flyers
In order to attend the program students/parents/guardians must complete registration forms. Online forms have been emailed directly to families. Please let us know if you don’t receive an email by contacting us at laregistration@beammath.org!

Students and families will also receive an acceptance packet in the mail with hard copy forms to submit. You should receive these in the mail before the end of May.

TRANSPORTATION
It is important to us that every student is able to get to the program even if their parents work or are unable to bring them, so BEAM offers transportation assistance via school bus. Stops are located near our partner middle schools. Families are welcome to drop their student off at the school.
All students must complete the form, even if they will not utilize provided transportation.

General
Does my child need to wear uniform?
BEAM does not have a uniform policy, students must wear school-appropriate clothing.
Do I need to provide anything for my child, like a waterbottle, supplies, or backpack?
No, BEAM provides all supplies that the student may need.
Course Selection
What if my child doesn’t fill out the course selection form on time?
No worries! We will assign a class to your child. All of our classes are interesting and fun and we’re sure they’ll enjoy whichever they’re enrolled into.
My child is in a class they didn’t choose!
While we try to accommodate every student’s preference, unfortunately sometimes that is not possible. Students rank their choices in the form, so we try to have them in their top 3 choices. We’re sure that regardless of the class your student is enrolled in, they’ll enjoy themselves and learn a lot.
Transportation
What are the exact pick up/drop of times? Which corner of the intersection should the student wait at?
The times that students will be picked up/dropped off at the bus stops are not included in the form because we will be sending out that information closer to the start date. You can estimate the bus to be at the stops anytime between 7:30 and 8:45 and drop off between 4:45 and 6 depending on the stop.
Will there be any other stops not included in the form?
Unfortunately there the stops on the form are the only ones we have this summer. There is at least one stop that is close to your child's school. If you will be using the bus, please choose the one that is most convenient for your family.
If my student misses the bus, can I drop them off?
Yes, if you are running late or miss the bus and will be dropping off your student instead, please text or call us immediately so that we are aware and can update the staff on the bus.
Will there be supervision on the bus?
Each bus will be supervised by a BEAM staff member the whole ride. They will take attendance when students board and unboard the bus.
Is the location selected for pickup the same one that they'll be dropped off at?
Yes, unless you tell us otherwise, your child is expected to board and depart the bus at the same stop.
How long will the bus wait for students?
The bus cannot wait for students who are running late. Please aim for students to be at the bus stop about 10 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time.
